The 2013 NCAA Women’s Tournament is nearing to a close. With the Final Four set to hit New Orleans this weekend, all eyes will be on some of the nation’s top programs.
NCAA Women’s Final Four 2013: Game preview, TV schedule for Louisville vs. California
The first national semifinal meeting between California and Louisville will pit two very evenly matched teams up against each other.

Two games are scheduled for Sunday night. The first will pit the No. 5 seed Louisville Cardinals against the No. 2 seed California Golden Bears. Louisville reached this point by upsetting top-seeded Baylor in the Sweet 16 and then edging Tennessee in the Elite Eight. Cal defeated Georgia in the regional final, 65-62, to reach the national semifinal.
The Cardinals are led by junior guard Shoni Schimmel, who averages a team-high 14.4 points a game. Sara Hammond, who has played very well in March, scores just over 10 points a game for Louisville.
The Bears have three players who average at least 12 points a game. Layshia Clarendon leads the way with 16.4 points a night, while Brittany Body averages 12.6. Gennifer Brandon is a force in the post, averaging a double-double with 12.3 points and 11.2 rebounds.
Both teams averaged exactly 72.3 points a game this past season. Louisville gives up a little more than 58 points to their opponents each night, while California gives up slightly more than 57. It seems, on paper, these two teams are about as evenly matched as you can get.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 7. It will be televised by ESPN.
