The University of Louisville is a public university, but apparently one Louisville Cardinals staffer provided the team with a bit of a boost from Vatican City.
Louisville blessed with pope-blessed holy water
So they have that going for them.

Pitino's team chaplain, Father Ed Bradley, has been a mainstay on Pitino's benches and has been with the coach since he coached across the state for the Kentucky Wildcats. Whether or not he was the staffer to bestow the holy water Monday, Pitino's teams have always had a Catholic presence.
That Pope Francis is doing everything these days, though it’s possible the holy water wasn’t blessed by the man less than a month into his pontificate. It could have been blessed by Benedict XVI, the former pope. It also could have been blessed by Mark Pope, who played for Louisville coach Rick Pitino on the championship-winning Wildcats in 1996.
