The Connecticut Huskies left no doubt about who the top team in the country was on Tuesday night, winning the 2013 Women’s National Championship over Louisville, 93-60. It marks the program’s eighth national title, tying Tennessee under coach Pat Summit for the most women’s championships.

The final outcome was essentially determined just a few minutes after the opening tip. UConn imposed its will on both ends the floor, shooting 53 percent on the offensive end and holding Louisville to just 37 percent on their shot attempts. The Huskies also out-rebounded the Cardinals by 19.
Whenever the Cardinals would try and mount any kind of a rally, the Huskies answered with a couple of quick baskets and defensive stops. It was a dominating performance for coach Geno Auriemma’s bunch, and one they will talk about for years.
Breanna Stewart was the star once again for Connecticut, leading the way with 23 points and nine rebounds. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis had 18 points and nine boards, while Kelly Farris went 4-for-7 from behind the three-point arc on her way to 16 points. Farris also brought down nine rebounds and dished out six assists.
Very little went right for Louisville. Sara Hammond scored a team-high 15 points. No other Cardinals reached double-digits in scoring.
