UConn picks up commitment from Daniel Hamilton

Daniel Hamilton wasn’t heavily recruited despite being one of the best high school juniors in the country. Kevin Ollie and UConn weren’t fooled, gaining a commitment from Hamilton on Friday.

The Connecticut Huskies landed a commitment from Los Angeles-area wing Daniel Hamilton on Friday, according to ESPN RecruitingNation's Dave Telep.

For more on this story, head over to The UConn Blog.

Hamilton made the decision after a Nike EYBL game in Frisco, Texas. The St. John Bosco High School product is the brother of former Texas guard and Denver Nuggets' swingman Jordan Hamilton and UTEP commit Isaac Hamilton. He received offers from Colorado, Colorado State, USC, San Diego State and UTEP before settling on UConn and head coach Kevin Ollie.

Because of brother Isaac's spurning of several high-profile schools in favor of UTEP, many coaches assumed the same for Daniel and backed off in their pursuit of him, according to Telep.

The 6'6, 175-pound Hamilton is ranked No. 27 overall among high school juniors according to ESPN's RecruitingNation. He will be joined in UConn's backcourt in 2014 by, among other players, Rodney Purvis, who transferred from NC State following the 2012-13 season.
