A week after learning star guard Angel Rodriguez would be transferring to Miami, the Kansas State Wildcats secured a commitment from another top transfer. Justin Edwards, a sophomore out of Maine, gave his pledge to coach Bruce Weber and the Wildcats on Saturday after visiting the campus earlier in the week, according to Kansas.com.

Edwards will provide a big boost to the Wildcats’ backcourt once he becomes eligible to play in 2014.

Edwards, who is 6’3 and projects to play on the wing, will not be eligible until the 2014-15 season. He must sit out a year under NCAA transfer rules. He will have two years of eligibility left in Manhattan.
As a sophomore this past season, Edwards did a little bit of everything on the court, averaging 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists. As a true freshman, he put up 13.9 points per game while averaging similar rebound and assist numbers. He was a member of the America East all-conference second team in 2013, as well.
There are downfalls to Edwards’ game. He turned the ball over 4.1 times a game last season, which was one of the worst marks in the country. He also has a reputation of being a bit shot-happy at times, shooting just 42 percent from the field and 27 percent from behind the arc thus far in his career.
In addition to Kansas State, Edwards was considering a handful of Big 12 and mid-major schools from the area.
