The Alabama Crimson Tide received a commitment from Longwood freshman forward Michael Kessens on Saturday, according to a tweet from Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports.
Michael Kessens transfers to Alabama, according to report
Kessens, a native of Switzerland, averaged nearly 14 points and nine rebounds a game as a freshman last season.

Kessens, a native of Nyon, Switzerland, announced his intentions to transfer from Longwood earlier in the week. He will be forced to sit out a year due to NCAA rules, although he should provide Alabama coach Anthony Grant with a presence in the paint once he becomes eligible for the 2014-15 season. He will have three years of eligibility in Tuscaloosa.
As a freshman, Kessens averaged nearly 14 points and nine rebounds a game. He was also a force on the defensive end, averaging more than one block and one steal a game.
Kessens currently stands at 6’9 and 205 pounds, and he should continue to put on weight as he spends more time in a college weight room. He is lanky, athletic and should have no trouble getting up and down the floor as the Crimson Tide push the tempo on offense.
