The Rutgets Scarlet Knights announced on Friday that point guard Jerome Seagears will return for his junior season -- just two months after he announced his decision to transfer.

Jerome Seagears is the second player of the six that decided to leave Rutgers amid the Mike Rice scandal to ultimately decide to return to the program.

Seagears was granted a release from the program on April 9 and decided on Auburn as his next destination. The Silver Springs, Md., native had a change of heart, however, and will return to the university where he averaged more than 7.0 points per game as a freshman and sophomore.
Head coach Eddie Jordan was thrilled about Seagears’ decision, according to his comments in a Rutgers press release.
“We are very excited to welcome Jerome back into the program. He is a very talented young man from a wonderful family. I look forward to providing Jerome and his teammates an extremely positive Rutgers experience.”
Auburn coach Tony Barbee announced Seagears’ departure from the program on Monday, according to USA Today Sports’ Jerry Carino, but was understanding of the situation.
“Jerome came to me and expressed that he hadn’t truly recovered emotionally from his time at Rutgers. It is important to him that he continues his academic and athletic career closer to home where he can be near his immediate family and get the support system that he needs.”
Seagears is the second player that left Rutgers after last season only to announce his intention to return as junior forward Malick Kone initially requested a transfer release at the end of March, but has since decided to stay with the program.
