Alabama forward Devonta Pollard was one of three people arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping on Tuesday.
Alabama’s Devonta Pollard charged in kidnapping
The future of the highest-profile recruit of the Anthony Grant era in Tuscaloosa is now in serious jeopardy.

Pollard’s mother, Jesse Mae Pollard, was arrested last month after she allegedly took 6-year-old Jashayla Hopson from the child’s elementary school without permission. Jesse Mae Pollard then sent Hopson’s father a text message which read: “don’t call the police I will call you later if you call the police u wont see her again.” The child was found unharmed the next day after she had been dropped off on the side of the road.
In all, six people have now been arrested in the kidnapping of Hopson, and police say they expect to arrest at least one more.
Pollard, a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school, was the highest-profile player to sign with Anthony Grant. His freshman season in Tuscaloosa was a bit of a disappointment, however, as he averaged just 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds.
