A 9-millimeter handgun and ammunition were found outside of P.J. Hairston's rental car on Wednesday, according to the police report filed regarding his arrest on marijuana possession charges via USA Today Sports' Scott Gleeson.
P.J. Hairston arrest: Police found gun during traffic stop
P.J. Hairson could be in more trouble than initially reported after police found a gun and ammo outside of his rental car after a traffic stop on Wednesday.

Since the items were found outside of the vehicle, police believe one of the three passengers in the 2013 GMC Yukon attempted to dump them during the stop, which occurred at 10:20 p.m. ET. Durham Police public information officer Kammie Michael refused to say who the gun was registered to, per Gleeson, but she did confirm the weapon was undergoing a forensics check.
Hairston was also charged with driving without a license. The junior from North Carolina was carrying passengers Miykael Faulcon and Carlos Sanford, both of whom also received drug possession charges. All three were released on $1,000 bonds.
Hairston averaged 14.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore for the Tar Heels, who were eliminated by Kansas in the third round of the NCAA Tournament in March.
