Jordan Mickey and Karviar Shepherd, a pair of consensus top-100 prospects in the 2013 recruiting class, have been ruled ineligible by the NCAA.

Two top-100 prospects are unsure of their statuses for their freshman seasons after the NCAA ruled them as non-qualifiers on Thursday.

Signed to LSU and TCU, respectively, Mickey and Shepherd transferred to Prime Prep, an accredited Dallas-area high school, prior to their senior years. According to an ESPN report, the school may be at fault for the current dilemma.
“The kids were misled by the school,” one source told ESPN.com. “Everyone told them there wouldn’t be any issues.”
Both players will appeal the ruling. Neither player knows his current status for next season, which leaves a pair of schools waiting to see what happens.
Mickey, a 6’8 power forward out of Arlington, Texas, is rated as the No. 38 prospect in the 2013 class by ESPN. He picked the Tigers over a handful of high-major schools, including Arkansas and Ohio State. For an LSU program that has struggled to get off the ground in recent years, the loss of Mickey is a substantial blow to their efforts in 2013-14.
Shepherd, a 6’9 center out of Dallas, is rated as this year’s No. 77 prospect by ESPN. He signed with TCU after considering most Big 12 schools, including Kansas and Texas A&M. Regarded as one of the strongest and toughest players available in this year’s class, Shepherd has a bright future ahead of him if he’s able to continue developing his offensive game.
