Jordan Mickey cleared to play for LSU, father says

Highly-touted LSU recruit Jordan Mickey is cleared to play this year after earlier being declared academically ineligible by the NCAA.

USA TODAY Sports

LSU Tigers basketball recruit Jordan Mickey has been cleared to play by the NCAA. His father, James Wright, confirmed the decision to NOLA.com's Randy Rosetta.

Mickey, along with Dallas Prime Prep teammate and TCU commit Karviar Shepherd, was declared academically ineligible by the NCAA earlier this month. The school co-founded by Deion Sanders might have been at fault for the ineligibility, according to a report by ESPN. Like Mickey, though, Shepherd was green-lighted by the NCAA this week to begin his college career.

Regardless of why it happened, Mickey will be able to practice and play with his teammates in Baton Rouge soon because the 6’7, 195-pound swingman is set to enroll at the university next month.

Mickey was the No. 38 overall recruit in the 2013 class, according to ESPN’s Recruiting Nation. He turned down offers from Arkansas, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and SMU in favor of Johnny Jones’ Tigers.
