Kevin Ware could play for Louisville in October, according to Rick Pitino

Ware is now able to ride a stationary bike and could begin working out next month.

Louisville guard Kevin Ware is progressing well after suffering a gruesome compound fracture of his right leg during the NCAA Tournament last March. According to head coach Rick Pitino, Ware could return to the court in October.

Pitino said in a recent ESPN article that he’s encouraged by Ware’s rehabilitation and believes the sophomore guard could begin working out within a month. He has recently begun riding a stationary bicycle and X-rays taken on Ware’s right leg show the bone is continuing to grow.

It is unclear if Ware will ever return to the form he displayed while coming off the bench as a freshman. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery, although we won’t truly know if his leg is 100 percent until he begins competing in what should be very competitive Cardinals practices this fall.

Ware will be one of the few returners to Louisville as they prepare for another national championship run. If he proves to be healthy, look for him to serve as a sixth or seventh man off the bench.
