Nearly three years after committing to the Indiana Hoosiers as a 14-year-old prospect, James Blackmon Jr. decommitted from the program Thursday to weigh his college options.

As his senior year of high school approaches, Blackmon felt it was best to take a step back and see what’s out there.

Blackmon, rated as a four-star shooting guard by ESPN and the 25th best prospect in the 2014 class, gave his pledge to IU as a freshman in high school. He has since seen his stock rise on the AAU circuit, becoming one of the top shooters in his class. Blackmon’s father told 24/7 Sports that Indiana remains one of the top schools for his son and that he has “all the respect in the world for what coach (Tom) Crean’s done.”
No other schools had contacted Blackmon as of Thursday, although that’s likely to change in the coming weeks once the school year begins. It’s unclear which coaches will come calling at this point, especially with Blackmon being overlooked the past couple summers given his firm commitment to Indiana. Blackmon’s father indicated he and his son may visit a couple of campuses later in the year.
The Hoosiers now have no players committed for 2014.
