Sheldon Jeter will transfer for Pitt, be eligible for 2014-15 season

Another transfer saga concludes with a reasonable degree of closure.

USA TODAY Sports

Former Vanderbilt Commodores forward Sheldon Jeter will transfer to the Pittsburgh Panthers, according to John Perrotto of timesonline.com.

The decision brought a conclusion to yet another drawn-out transfer episode. Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings initially prevented the western Pennsylvania native from transferring close to home. After spending his freshman season at Vanderbilt in 2012-13, Jeter tried to transfer to Pitt. Stallings did not release him from his scholarship to do so. In August, Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News reported that Jeter would transfer to Polk State College, a junior college in Florida.

According to Perrotto, Jeter will stay at Polk State through this semester and will concentrate on his academics without playing basketball. He is also staying off the court to preserve a third year of NCAA eligibility down the road. He’ll make it to Pittsburgh in the winter and will be eligible to play in the 2014-15 season.

He will be be eligible to practice with the team for the remainder of the season once he arrives in Pittsburgh.

He averaged 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game as a freshman at Vanderbilt.
