Wisconsin vs. Michigan recap: Wolverines hand Badgers second straight loss, 77-70

Michigan played wildly efficient on offense, shooting over 54 percent against Wisconsin.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Michigan Wolverines shot themselves back into relevance Saturday, upsetting the No. 3 Wisconsin Badgers 77-70 at the Kohl Center in Madison. Nik Stauskas scored 23 points as the Wolverines spread the floor and attacked a stretched Badger defense.

Wisconsin clawed back from 14 down, but Stauskas provided the dagger for Michigan on a crossover, step-back three:

Stauskas scored the last 11 points for the Wolverines.

After losing pre-season All-Big Ten big man Mitch McGary to back surgery, many downplayed Michigan's chances of competing in such a tough conference. However, a 5-0 start to Big Ten play, with a road win at Minnesota coupled with the win in Madison, has silenced those doubters.

Any Michigan fan getting comfortable with their current run of success should peek at the upcoming schedule. The Wolverines host the Iowa Hawkeyes next, who is becoming one of the best teams in the country. After that, trips to East Lansing and Bloomington are sandwiched around a home game against the Purdue Boilermakers. The next two weeks will reveal the true character of a reborn Michigan team.
