Villanova vs. Georgetown final score: Wildcats hold off Georgetown for 65-60 road win

Villanova has now avoided international embarrassment for one consecutive Monday.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Last Monday, the No. 9 Villanova Wildcats were notable for all the wrong reasons, giving up 21 threes to No. 20 Creighton in a 96-68 home loss. A week later — with an overtime win over Marquette in the interim — a disappointing Georgetown Hoyas team held a 41-40 lead over Villanova in the second half.

But Villanova jumped back on top, never allowing the Hoyas to lead again. The Wildcats won, 65-60.

Georgetown opened the game on an 8-0 run, and that would be the biggest lead in the game for either team. The Wildcats answered straight back with nine unanswered points over the next three minutes, and neither team gained any more than a seven-point lead from that point on.

The Hoyas held the ball down 61-58 with about 45 seconds left, but Markel Starks was called for an offensive foul nine seconds into the shot clock.

Villanova held Georgetown to 60 points on 44.2 percent shooting after giving up an average of 90.5 points per game to Creighton and Marquette last week.
