At one point, Ohio State was 15-0. They are now 16-5. They can thank D.J. Newbill and the Penn State Nittany Lions for that fifth loss.
Penn State’s D.J. Newbill beats Ohio State after crossing up Aaron Craft
D.J. Newbill took over down the stretch against Ohio State, with 12 of his 21 in the final three minutes of regulation and overtime, plus the game-winner.

The Nittany Lions trailed 62-55 with three minutes to go in regulation, but a pair of free throws and a three by Newbill were part of a 7-0 run to tie it, and yet another Newbill three would make it 65-65 to head into overtime. Ohio State opened up a 70-67 lead in the extra frame, but Newbill scored again, and an Ohio State turnover set up a chance for the hoopster Nits to win it.
Everybody knew what was coming: Newbill with the ball, Ohio State senior point guard/leader/Wooden Award Nominee/Guy Who Just Plays To Win The Game And Does Things That Doesn’t Show Up On The Stat Sheet/Guy Who Should Be The No. 1 Overall Pick per Dan Dakich, Aaron Craft guarding him.
And although Craft is one of the most adept on-ball defenders imaginable... Newbill got the best of him.
Game, Penn State, their biggest win of the season. And the Buckeyes' freefall continues.
