Villanova vs. Seton Hall final score: Guards lead Wildcats to road win, 83-67

In typical Nova fashion, it was the backcourt powering the Wildcats to their third straight conference victory.

Jim O’Connor-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Arcidiacono and Darrun Hilliard combined for 33 points as the No. 8 Villanova Wildcats topped Seton Hall, 83-67, Wednesday night in Newark, N.J.

The Wildcats are now 3-0 in the Big East and have won three straight games, while the Pirates dropped to 1-2 in the conference. Arcidiacono hit three first-half three-pointers, a microcosm of how the game went for Nova.

Villanova starters were a combined 9-17 from beyond the arc, with the Wildcats shooting over 50 percent from long range as a team. On the other end, Villanova forced 16 turnovers to help offset 20 points from Brian Oliver.

Nova is off to its best start since the 2010-2011 season, when the Wildcats started 16-1. They will take their 14-1 record to St. John’s, then return home to face DePaul. The Wildcats are 3-1 on the road this season, with their only loss coming to Syracuse in the vaunted Carrier Dome.
