It wasn’t always pretty, but No. 6 Wichita State ultimately cruised to a 66-47 win over Missouri Valley foe Illinois State Wednesday night at home.

Wichita State held Illinois State to just 47 points and 32 percent shooting from the field.


Ron Baker (11 points) and Cleanthony Early (11 points, six rebounds) each scored in double figures while Fred VanVleet had perhaps the most complete game for Wichita State. His six points, seven rebounds and 10 assists gave the Shockers a boost just about everywhere on the court.
Defensively, the Shockers held Illinois State to 32 shooting and frustrated the Redbirds' two leading scorers all night. Daishon Knight, who came into the game leading Illinois State with 14.2 per game, scored just five points on 2-of-9 shooting. Second-leading scorer Zach Lofton had an even more frustrating night; his eight points came on 3-of-18 shooting.
The win keeps Wichita State unbeaten with a road contest against Missouri State coming up on Saturday.
