Point guard Jawun Evans picked Oklahoma State over Illinois on Wednesday morning, giving the Cowboys their first commitment from a high school player in the class of 2015. Evans is the No. 21 player overall in our class of 2015 composite rankings and was the 14th best uncommitted prospect left in the class. He’s rated as high as No. 8 overall by 247 Sports and is considered the best point guard in the state of Texas.
Jawun Evans commits to Oklahoma State
The rising guard has committed to Travis Ford and the Cowboys.

Evans is a 6-foot, 165-pound lead guard from Dallas’ Kimball High School after spending much of his early life in South Carolina. He’s known as a terrific ball handler, heady floor general and a player who likes to attack offensively.
It’s a huge commitment for Travis Ford, a coach many consider to be on the hot seat after losing in their first of the NCAA Tournament with a talented squad a year ago. Evans gives Oklahoma State its biggest recruit since Marcus Smart committed in 2012. Smart left the Cowboys after his sophomore season to become the No. 6 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Anthony Hickey, a transfer from LSU, will hold down point guard duties for Oklahoma State this year before graduating and leaving the door open for Evans.
It’s a tough blow for Illinois, but the Illini already have a strong class lined up with three top 100 prospects. Illinois recruiting class received a big boost last month from shooting guard Jalen Colemand-Lands.
