College basketball recruiting: Georgetown, Kentucky, St John’s will have top players on campus

Georgetown, Kentucky, St Johns, and Maryland will have some of the top players on their campus this weekend.

It’s a busy time in college basketball. With the official start of the season about a month away and schools everywhere kicking off Midnight Madness festivities, top uncommitted recruits across the country are making official visits. A recruit is only allowed five official visits by the NCAA, so if nothing else an official signals that the prospect is seriously considering the school.

A lot is happening on Friday when schools like Georgetown, Maryland, St Johns and Kentucky will have some key players on campus. Let’s take a look at the latest recruiting news around college hoops.

Perry Doizer

The recruiting of the five-star point guard has been quiet thus far. Doizer has already visited Michigan and North Carolina, and now he’s set to see Georgetown on Friday for Midnight Madness. Doizer told Michael Bohlin of Hoyas247 that he is looking forward to his visit because he will get to see former teammate L.J. Peak, who is now a freshman with the Hoyas. This is not only big for Doizer, but for the staff because they’re looking to add a guard to the 2015 recruiting class.

Diamond Stone

The five-star big man will be at Maryland for the school’s Midnight Madness on Friday. Stone, ranked No. 6 in the class of 2015 by ESPN, would potentially be a program-changing grab for coach Mark Turgeon. Jerry Meyer of 247 Sports reported that Maryland is beginning to move up on Stone’s list, but UConn and Wisconsin are likely still the favorites.

The packaged deal Stone and Malik Newman talked about for months now looks like it’s off the table. One thing to note is that Maryland assistant Bino Ranson has been recruiting Diamond Stone since his freshman year. It could pay off for Maryland. Stone will commit on the first day of signing period, November 12.

Isaiah Briscoe

After a visit to Missouri last weekend, Isaiah Briscoe will take his next official to St John’s for the school’s Midnight Madness this Friday. Head coach Steve Lavin has been after Briscoe for years, and the program is hoping that diligence pays off. Many people consider St John’s the favorite at this point, and with Briscoe also considering heavyweights like Kentucky and likely not committing until the spring, there’s still a long way to go.

Kentucky

The stars are out for Kentucky’s Midnight Madness this Friday. The list is a who’s who of top talent: Jaylen Brown, Malik Newman, Carlton Bragg, Brandon Ingram and Tyus Battle will all be in attendance. One thing that a lot of players will be looking forward to is seeing Drake perform. One notable absence is Antonio Blakeney, the five-star shooting guard prospect who committed from Louisville 12 days after giving Rick Pitino a verbal.
