College basketball rankings: Kentucky stays at No. 1 in new AP Top 25

The Wildcats lost three first-place votes, but are still the Associated Press’ overwhelming choice as the nation’s top college hoops team.

Despite a slightly shaky performance against Buffalo on Sunday, the Kentucky Wildcats are still your No. 1 team in the first regular season Top 25 poll from the Associated Press.

UK received 49 first-place votes, three fewer than in the preseason poll, but still 45 more than No. 2 Arizona. Wisconsin received seven nods for the top spot, while No. 4 Duke, which did not receive a first place vote last week, got four. Kansas rounded out the top five for a second straight week.

There was just one change in the top 10, as Louisville was rewarded for its season-opening victory over Minnesota by being moved past Florida and into the No. 7 spot. The Gators fell to No. 8.

The lone team to fall out the rankings was Harvard, which had been No. 25 in the preseason poll but lost to Holy Cross on Sunday. Since the Crimson had been tied with Utah at No. 25 last week, no new teams entered the rankings.
