DJ Newbill hits game-winner for Penn State after Cornell’s inbounds play goes soooo wrong

All Cornell had to do against Penn State was inbound the ball. Instead they lightly lobbed it to Penn State, and Penn State won.

Cornell went 1-26 against Division I teams last year, but they’re off to a good start at 2-2 this year. And they were ohhhhhhhh soooooooooo cloooooose to getting a win against Penn State. But they did not get one.

The Big Red led the Nittany Lions 71-67 with under ten seconds to go. PSU’s John Johnson hit a three, and Cornell was up one with five seconds to go. They just needed to inbound it, get fouled, and prevent a full-court play for a basket, and a win was theirs. Instead:

In Shonn Miller’s defense, he had a man. He wasn’t just lobbing this one up there. But in effect, he throws the ball across halfcourt where two Penn State players are calmly waiting, giving them the ball with five seconds.

DJ Newbill would get the ball and hit a game-winner:

Poor Cornell.
