Wichita State went the entire regular season without losing a year ago. It hasn’t been as easy this season without CleAnthony Early. The Shockers lost at Utah earlier this month and found themselves on the ropes yet again on Tuesday night at home against Alabama. With 11 minutes left, the Tide led by eight points.

That’s when Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet started to turn it on. Wichita State big man Darius Carter capped a furious rally by slamming in a dunk for the go-ahead points off an assist from VanVleet to give the Shockers a 53-52 win.

Here’s a look at the final bucket:

Baker hit some key buckets down the stretch to lead Wichita with 14 points and five rebounds. Carter added 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. VanVleet had nine points, seven rebounds and five assists, but was uncharacteristically careless with the ball.

It’s a tough loss for Alabama, which drops to 6-3. The Tide were searching for a signature win after falling to Xavier and Iowa State in close games earlier this year. Anthony Grant’s team will have to continue searching. Shannon Hale led Alabama with 13 points off the bench. Guard Levi Randolph added 13 points and five rebounds in the loss.
