Markus Kennedy is back for the SMU. After being ruled ineligible for the first semester of the school year, the power forward has been reinstated to the basketball program, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Kennedy is the Mustangs’ best interior scorer. Larry Brown’s team was able to go 7-3 without him, with losses against Indiana, Gonzaga and Arkansas. SMU faces Michigan tomorrow afternoon in Ann Arbor.

Kennedy’s status opened up an opportunity for senior big man Yanick Moreira, who is averaging 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season on 61.7 percent shooting. Sophomore forward Ben Moore has also established himself early in this season, averaging 10.1 points and 6.5 steals per game with Kennedy out.

Kennedy was the was second on the Mustangs in scoring last year by averaging 12.4 points per game. He also led the team in rebounding by grabbing 7.1 boards per game.

With Louisville now in the ACC and UConn struggling at 4-4, there’s definitely an opportunity for SMU this season in the American. A year ago, the Mustangs were snubbed from the NCAA Tournament and lost to Minnesota in the N.I.T. championship game.
