Wichita State entered Salt Lake City with a 35-game winning streak on Wednesday night, but the Utah Utes made sure it wouldn't extend any further. The Shockers went on a furious run at the end of regulation to force overtime, but Utah would eventually gain control in the extra session to come away with a 69-68 upset win in front of a rowdy home crowd.

After a bucket by Delon Wright gave Utah the lead late in OT, Wichita State guard Fred VanVleet was fouled but missed the front end of a one-and-one. Utah secured the rebound to hang on for the victory.

Wichita State forced overtime with a 14-1 run at the end of regulation. It started with a three by Fred VanVleet with 1:12 left. The Shockers would then get the ball back for forcing a five-second call on the inbounds pass, and capitalized on it when Tekele Cotton hit another three. The Shockers then forced a steal on the inbounds pass and VanVleet hit another three. After two Utah free throws, the game headed to overtime.

Junior guard Brandon Taylor was the star of the night for the Utes, finishing with 17 points and four assists on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. Delon Wright added 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds, while freshman center Jakob Poeltl finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Utes in the win.

VanVleet was struggling badly for most of the night, but came through when it mattered in regulation. He ended the night with 13 points on 5-of-19 shooting from the field. Ron Baker’s 15 points led the way for the Shockers.
