Syracuse vs. N.C. State final score: Orange stay undefeated with layup in final seconds

Yet again, the nation’s No. 1 team found a way to win a thriller.

Rich Barnes

With time running down at the Carrier Dome, it looked like No. 1 Syracuse might finally have run out of late-game magic. The Orange trailed by one to N.C. State with 14 seconds to go and the Wolfpack had possession.

Then, Rakeem Christmas stole a pass from Anthony Barber, found Tyler Ennis, who fed C.J. Fair, and Syracuse escaped again, this time 56-55.

The win brought Syracuse to 25-0 this season and was the Orange’s second straight win in the final seconds -- Ennis beat Pitt at the buzzer earlier in the week. Syracuse has now won eight games this year by six points or less.

And with Wichita State also undefeated, college basketball now has two 25-0 teams in the same season for the first time since 2003-04, according to ESPN.

After the Fair layup, the Wolfpack had one more shot, but T.J. Warren couldn't get his attempt to go and despite an offensive rebound, N.C. State did not get another shot up before time expired. The Wolfpack are now 16-9, 6-6 in the ACC.

Warren led all scorers with 23 points while Christmas had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Syracuse.
