Nebraska vs. Michigan State final score: Cornhuskers stun Spartans on road, 60-51

Nebraska picked up arguably its biggest win since joining the Big Ten on Sunday afternoon.

Duane Burleson

The Nebraska Cornhuskers picked up their biggest win of the season Sunday afternoon, going into East Lansing and knocking off the ninth-ranked Michigan State Spartans, 60-51. An argument can be made it is their biggest win since joining the Big Ten.

The hero of the day was Terran Petteway. With the Cornhuskers up 51-49 and just 2:30 left, Petteway stepped up and drilled an NBA-range three-pointer with a hand in his face to put Nebraska up five. Then, with just over a minute to go and the Huskers up three, Petteway attacked the rim on the fast break and made a layup to push the lead to 56-51. He drilled two free throws in the final minute to put the game on ice.

Petteway finished with 23 points and five rebounds. Walter Pitchford had 18 points, while Shavon Shields chipped in with seven points, eight boards, two assists and a steal.

As they have been all season long, Michigan State was really hampered by the injury bug. Keith Appling was only able to play sparingly and had just two points, and Branden Dawson continued to sit on the sidelines with a broken hand. The Spartans just didn't have anyone to continually score the ball as Gary Harris and Adreian Payne were the only two players to reach double-digits in points. As a team, MSU shot just 34 percent from the floor and was 5-of-24 from deep.
