Big 12 Tournament 2014 schedule and bracket: Semifinal action on Friday

The Big 12 heads into the semifinals on Friday after thrilling quarterfinal action on Thursday. Here’s your complete schedule for the day.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Big 12 tournament semifinal round will take place on Friday. The quarterfinal round had plenty of exciting basketball, and fans will be hoping for it to continue.

Higher Education

The first game on the schedule will feature the Kansas Jayhawks taking on the Iowa State Cyclones. Both teams are guaranteed to dance, but Kansas wants to prove that it can win without Joel Embiid and can secure a No. 1 seed. If Andrew Wiggins stays in top form, they just might be able to pull that off. Wiggins dominated in the quarterfinal round, scoring 30 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a 77-70 overtime win over Oklahoma State. Iowa State beat Kansas State in a 91-85 shootout. They had just a two-point lead with a minute left, but were able to keep the Wildcats out of arm's length.

The Jayhawks swept the Cyclones in the regular season, winning their last game by 11 points. That was with Embiid, however, and Iowa State should be a much tougher test than an Oklahoma State team sitting on the bubble.

Big 12 tournament

After a slow start in conference play, the Baylor Bears got hot down the stretch to get on the right side of the bubble. They may have just punched their ticket on Thursday with a 78-73 win over the Oklahoma Sooners. The Bears advance to face the third-seeded Texas Longhorns, who blew past the West Virginia Mountaineers 66-49 on Thursday night. Texas ran out to a 17-2 lead to open the game, and Jonathan Holmes poured in 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting in the win.
