Half of the bracket went chalk, while the other half of the new-look Big East bracket went all over the place. Eventually, Creighton and Providence found themselves matched up in the championship game.
2014 Big East Tournament schedule and bracket: Doug McDermott leads Creighton against Providence
The final is set for the first Big East Tournament in the new version of a classic conference.

No. 4 Providence staved off No. 8 Seton Hall in a battle of Big East underdogs. The Friars are trying to make a case to the selection committee, which they could avoid altogether if they can win the tournament outright. As it is, Providence is hanging around on the bubble. In the game against the Pirates, Friars forward LaDontae Henton stepped up, finishing with 26 points and 14 rebounds.
Second-seeded Creighton used a big game from player of the year candidate Doug McDermott, who had 30 points along with four rebounds, to put No. 3 Xavier away. McDermott entered fifth place on the all-time scoring list during the contest. Xavier was listed among Chris Dobbertean's last four in as of Friday morning, and will be hoping for the best come Selection Sunday.
Saturday’s schedule of games:
No. 2 Creighton vs. No. 4 Providence, 8:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1
