NCAA Tournament scores, American vs. Wisconsin: Badgers dominate Eagles after slow start, 75-35
American took an early 17-10 lead in this one. Then the Badgers went on a 65-18 run.
Wisconsin started off slowly against American, but a huge second half propelled the Badgers to a blowout win over the Eagles, 75-35.
American came out firing all cylinders and held a 17-10 lead midway through the first half. The Badgers finally started to hit some shots, though, and then began attacking the rim at will. They would go on to knock down 50 percent from the floor and make 10 three-pointers, all while converting on 13-of-14 free throws. Traevon Jackson scored a game-high 18 points. Ben Brust had 17 and Sam Dekker had 11 points and six rebounds.
The Eagles gave everything they had, but they were too outmatched at every spot on the floor. Once Wisconsin started to get a couple stops on the defensive end, the floor caved in. Tony Wroblicky and John Schoof led the charge with 11 points apiece. American turned the ball over 17 times, was out-rebounded by seven, and shot less than 30 percent overall.
The win advances Wisconsin to the third round. They will face the winner of Oregon-BYU on Saturday for a chance to go to the Sweet 16.
