Jim Calhoun reportedly interested in Boston College job

Calhoun is 71 years old, but that hasn’t stopped him from thinking about making another run on the sidelines. Is Boston College a fit?

Jim Calhoun reportedly has interest in the open job at Boston College and has not ruled out a return to coaching.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, Calhoun could return to the sidelines if the right opportunity presents itself.

Calhoun, who is the special assistant to UConn athletic director Warde Manuel, recently told ESPN that he was in good health and wouldn’t rule out a return to coaching. When reached for comment on Friday morning, Calhoun declined to talk specifically about any interest in the BC job. However, he did not rule out his interest in returning to the sidelines.

“I would not be opposed to talking to anyone about basketball,” Calhoun said.

While Calhoun may be interested in Boston College, the Eagles may not be interested in him.

Calhoun, 71, retired from UConn in 2012 due to complications with his health. The Hall of Fame coach has 873 career wins and won three national championships with the Huskies, including the 2011 title with Kemba Walker leading the way. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005.

The vacancy at Boston College would likely appeal to Calhoun for a multitude of reasons. He is incredibly familiar with the area, spending all 40 years of his head coaching career at Northeastern and Connecticut. The Eagles are also expected to return nearly their entire roster from this year’s team, which underperformed badly.

Boston College fired Steve Donahue earlier this week after four disappointing seasons.
