The West Virginia Mountaineers will have to replace one of their top scorers from this season. According to Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, sophomore guard Eron Harris has asked for and been granted his release from the team, leaving him free to transfer to another school.

The sophomore guard has been released from West Virginia after just two years with the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers underwhelmed in the 2013-14 season, finishing with a 17-16 record and losing in the first round of the NIT, but Harris was one of their more important players. The 6'3, 195-pound guard averaged 17.2 points per game, second only to Juwan Staten. Harris was a three-star recruit out of Indianapolis and became a critical part of the team's offense in his second year.
West Virginia was hoping to take a step forward next season with Harris and Staten part of the core, along with sophomore guard Terry Henderson and freshman big man Devin Williams. Harris will be a big loss to a program that's been stuck in neutral since reaching the Final Four in 2010.
