Steve Masiello rejected by USF because of resume discrepancy, per reports

After a background check, USF discovered that something wasn’t right with Steve Masiello’s resume.

It’s never a good idea to lie on your resume, and Steve Masiello reminded the world of that on Tuesday.

Masiello, who is currently the head men’s basketball coach at Manhattan, had been offered the same position at South Florida. But USF pulled the job offer recently after discovering that Masiello had not graduated from Kentucky as he indicated on his resume, according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.

Masiello played at Kentucky from 1996 to 2000 but never officially graduated, according to the report. Both Manhattan and Louisville, where Masiello was an assistant coach, listed him as a Kentucky graduate on their official websites.

With USF pulling the job offer, Manhattan’s response to the news should be interesting. Those close to Masiello didn’t even know the reason for the offer being pulled until just a short while ago, according to Brandon Puntry of the Newark Star-Ledger. A college degree isn’t always a qualification to being a college basketball coach, but usually athletic departments value honesty in their coaches. There’s still the possibility of this being a mix-up, but for now it appears that Masiello lied on his resume, and that never reflects positively.
