Louisville guard Kevin Ware became a national topic of conversation a year ago when he suffered a horrifying leg injury against Duke in the Elite 8 and had to be carried off the court on a stretcher. On Saturday, Ware decided to transfer from Louisville after only playing in nine games this season, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

The guard who suffered an infamous leg injury a year ago is set to leave the Cardinals.

March Madness
Ware made an emotional return to the Cardinals at the beginning of the season in an exhibition game against Pikeville College, but the aftermath of the ghastly injury prevented him from ever making a true comeback. Ware injured his right leg again on Dec. 17 against Missouri State and didn’t play again all season, deciding to instead apply for a medical redshirt.
Ware averaged only 1.7 points per game in his nine appearances this season after playing a supporting role on Louisville’s national championship team a year ago. Ware scored 11 points in the Sweet 16 against Oregon the game before he suffered his infamous injury against the Blue Devils. He is reportedly looking to transfer somewhere closer to his home state of Georgia.
The announcement comes one day after Louisville’s season ended in the Sweet 16 at the hands of in-state rival Kentucky.
