Minnesota vs Florida State NIT betting odds, semifinal trends

Florida State will be in tough against Minnesota in NIT semifinal betting action Tuesday.

USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS over their last six games.

They are set to take on the Florida State Seminoles as a 1-point underdog in an NIT semifinal game at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

Minnesota failed to earn an NCAA Tournament bid in large part due to a 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS slump in the month of February. But the Golden Gophers are a respectable 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS since that slump, with the two straight-up losses coming to Michigan and Wisconsin on the road.

After failing to cover the spread as a 17-point favorite in the first round of the NIT Tournament, Minnesota has won and covered in games against Saint Mary's and Southern Miss.

Florida State went into its ACC Tournament matchup against Virginia on a 4-1 SU and ATS run, but lost to the Cavaliers 64-51 to bring its shot of earning an NCAA Tournament bid to an end.

The Seminoles couldn’t pick up a tournament bid out of the crowded ACC, but did earn a 1-seed in the NIT Tournament and have made the most of it with three straight wins. FSU is 7-2 SU and 5-3-1 ATS over its last nine games.

The Seminoles are led on offense by sophomore guard Aaron Thomas, who after averaging 14.1 points per game in the regular season is averaging 23 PPG in the NIT Tournament.

His offensive output has led the Seminoles to go OVER the total in seven of their last 10 games. The total has also gone OVER in three of Minnesota’s last four games.

In two meetings between these two teams since 2012, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are 2-0 SU and ATS with a 77-68 win at FSU and a 71-61 win at home. Minnesota is also 5-2 SU and 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven games as an underdog of 4.5 points per less.

But in order to keep those streaks going, the Golden Gophers will have to find an answer to defending Aaron Thomas, who has been the NIT Tournament’s best player so far.
