Cameron Payne scored 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting Thursday night to carry his Murray State Racers to a 65-57 victory over Yale at their Kentucky home in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament Championship Game.

Freshman Cameron Payne played like a seasoned pro Thursday night to guide his team to a championship.


Payne dropped 13 in the second half to help Murray State separated itself from the Bulldogs after a thin 27-26 lead at halftime. Jarvis Williams backed up Payne with 16 points of his own, while Javier Duren had 18 to lead Yale. No other Bulldog player scored in double figures.
The freshman Payne, known for his prolific scoring outbursts, also tied a career high with seven rebounds. Yale owned the ultimate advantage on the glass, out-rebounding the Racers, 52-40.
The win completed a 23-win season for Murray State, which lost just once on its home court all season. The Racers finished 13-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference before being upset in the conference tournament by Eastern Kentucky.
Murray State advanced to the title game by blowing out Pacific, 98-75 in the semifinals. Yale won on the road at VMI in its semifinal game.
