Frank Kaminsky thinks the NBA is boring

The Wisconsin center blogged about why he’s returning to college.

USA TODAY Sports

Wisconsin center Frank Kaminsky apparently has a blog called "The Moose Basketball," (which seems to be verified by his Twitter account) in which he writes about everything from his experiences in the NCAA Tournament to the Donald Sterling controversy to the new NCAA food rules.

However, his most popular post was one about his decision to stay in college rather than declare for the NBA Draft. In writing that, he threw some shade at the NBA.

I am at the pinnacle of my basketball playing career, at least in my eyes. I know the NBA has their crazy fans and all, but if you look at all of their games, there are games when teams get hardly any fans, and it looks flat out boring. At the Kohl Center, we play in front of nearly 17,000 fans every single time we step onto the court. When we travel, we play in front of sell out crowds who absolutely hate us. Not because of who is on the team, but because of where we go to school. Who could leave that?

He continued ...

I am going to be honest, I absolutely love college. Call me Joe College if you please. I sat down and thought about it for a long time, and I kept coming back to the same exact point. I don’t think I would be able to live with the regret of skipping my last year of college to be a potential D-League player or end up in Europe. I have no doubt in my mind that I would have been drafted. I believe that one day I will be put on an NBA roster, but that doesn’t happen right away for most people. Especially for a 7 foot white kid with average athleticism.

The college vs. professional debate always gets fans riled up, but in the Midwest, college sports generally generate more buzz. That’s not necessarily true around Kaminsky’s home in the suburbs of Chicago, but when his college team is averaging a few thousand more fans per game than the professional team an hour east on I-94, it’s tough to blame him.

The NBA is cool, but college is awesome, at least in the eyes of Frank Kaminsky. But don’t think Kaminsky is as big of an NCAA fan as he is a college fan.

Only a week after the NCAA tournament came to a close, the NCAA has passed a rule giving student-athletes unlimited meals. Prior to this, students were “given three meals per day.” My initial response to this was “well its about damn time”

Lets call this the “Shabazz Rule”. Our food forefather Mr. Napier went on a national television interview after the game and told the world how, on many nights, he goes to bed hungry. He’s right. ALL STUDENTS ATHLETES GO TO SLEEP HUNGRY AT SOME POINT, AND IT SUCKS. I couldn’t be prouder of Shabazz’s brutal honesty.

Kaminsky went on to say that players’ “complaining is working,” so hopefully that means we’ll get to read more uncensored Frank Kaminsky in the future, even before he leaves for the “boring” NBA.
