The Michigan State Spartans added a key name to their 2015 recruiting class Thursday when four-star guard Matt McQuaid committed to the program. As CBS Sports reports, McQuaid turned down offers from a number of quality schools in order to join Tom Izzo's team next year.
Matt McQuaid commits to Michigan State
McQuaid provides a much-needed boost to the Spartans’ recruiting class for 2015.

McQuaid, a 6’5 guard out of Duncanville, Texas, is currently ranked as the No. 67 player nationally in the 2015 class. He’s considered one of the best shooters in the country, and could make an early impact as a spot-up shooter and perimeter defender for the Spartans. He still needs to improve his ballhandling and fill out physically, but those opportunities should come working under Izzo.
The addition is a major coup for Michigan State, which has struggled to land elite names for next year. McQuaid could potentially partner with Eron Harris, who's transferring from West Virginia, in a potent new backcourt for the Spartans in 2015-16. Forward Deyonta Davis is the other top-100 prospect featured in MSU's 2015 recruiting class.
McQuaid originally committed to play for Larry Brown at SMU back in May, but decided to re-open his recruitment later in the summer. He visited Creighton in addition to East Lansing, but was ultimately swayed by his visit with the Spartans.
