Sophomore center Robert Upshaw has been dismissed from the Washington Huskies for a violation of team rules, coach Lorenzo Romar announced on Monday. Upshaw was in the middle of a breakout season that had some mock drafts projecting the big man as a future first-round pick in the NBA.
Washington dismisses star center Robert Upshaw from basketball team
The Huskies have booted their top big man out of the program.

Upshaw was on the court for the Huskies not even 24 hours before the school’s decision came down. He finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks in a 21-point loss to No. 12 Utah in Salt Lake City. He ends the season as the team’s third-leading scorer (10.9 points per game), leading rebounding (8.2 per game) and as the top shot blocker in the country with an average of 4.4 blocks per game.
The 7-foot, 250-pound center came to Washington after being dismissed from Fresno State in 2012, where he entered the program as a top-100 recruit in the class of 2012. He was a focal point in an impressive start for the Huskies during a season that saw the program hit the polls for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign.
Washington is 14-5 overall, and sixth in the Pac-12 at 3-4 in conference play.
Upshaw is currently ranked as the No. 20 player eligible for the 2015 NBA Draft by DraftExpress.
