College basketball schedule and results: Maryland, Ohio State features 2 great freshman guards

Keanau Post is a 6’11 senior big man for Mizzou. Devin Booker is a 6’5 freshman guard. He learned the hard way that sometimes young guns shouldn’t mess with the seasoned veterans of college hoops.

Jay Bilas was probably being hyperbolic when he described the whistle that ruined this insane Sam Thompson putback dunk as “the worst call in college basketball history.” Probably.

I personally believe that official should be thrown in jail.

Notre Dame is rarely thought of as a basketball powerhouse, but a hot start in ACC play gave Wednesday night’s contest against Duke some added significance. This was a rare game featuring two teams ranked in the top 10 of the polls played in front of an electric atmosphere in South Bend. It ended up being one of the more entertaining games of the season.

No. 8 Notre Dame moves to 20-2 in the win, while No. 4 Duke falls to 17-3. Here are three things we learned in the game:

Duke vs. Notre Dame doesn’t seem like it would have the appeal of two top 10 teams, but that’s exactly what Wednesday night’s game is thanks to the Irish’s hot start. Notre Dame is led by senior guard Jerian Grant, older brother of 76ers forward Jerami Grant and son of former Washington Bullets forward Harvey Grant. He’s pretty good.

Not only did Oklahoma State’s Michael Cobbins swat Royce O’Neale’s shot into about the eighth row of the stands, but he had the presence of mind to realize there was a camera nearby and that a TV timeout was coming up.

The result was a work of art.
