Mick Cronin said he was watching Cincinnati play SMU “Home. Alone. Calm” in the Bearcats’ first game since their coach said he would sit out the season due to a vascular condition that led to an aneurysm last month. Cronin had to be happy with what he saw. The Bearcats improved to 10-3 with a 56-50 win over SMU on Saturday afternoon at home in their AAC conference opener.
The man above is freshman forward Gary Clark, who turned in a nice all-around game for Cincinnati with eight points, seven rebounds and two steals. Fabrad Cobb came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points and 6’10 big man Octavius Ellis added 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field.
SMU falls to 10-4 in the loss. It’s clear the Mustangs are still trying to incorporate forward Markus Kennedy after he was ineligible for the first semester. Kennedy scored seven points on 3-of-10 shooting. Ryan Manuel led SMU with 14 points.
