The euphoria of Notre Dame’s win over Duke earlier this week turned out to be short-lived, as the Fighting Irish left the Petersen Events Center with a 76-72 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Pittsburgh upsets No. 8 Notre Dame, 76-72

Jamel Artis had a monster day for the Panthers, scoring a game-high 20 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. In crunch time, however, it was junior guard James Robinson's tough runner in the lane that put Pitt ahead for good. A wide open Steve Vasturia three-pointer on the other end wouldn't go down for the Irish, and Jamie Dixon's team was able to salt the game away at the free-throw line.
Although he led a late charge to put his team in a position to win the game, it was a mostly frustrating afternoon for Notre Dame star Jerian Grant. He was held to 14 points on just four field goals, and he also turned the ball over three times.
The loss is just the second in league play for the Irish, who drop to 8-2 in the ACC. The win improves Pitt to 4-5 in the conference, and to 14-3 all-time against top 10 teams at the Petersen Events Center.
