For the past five weeks, Kentucky has been a unanimous No. 1 choice in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. In the USA Today Poll, however, there has consistently been one coach among the 32-man panel who has elected to place the Wildcats a spot behind Duke.
Wofford’s Mike Young is the coach who keeps voting Duke ahead of Kentucky
Just one voter in college basketball’s two main polls has refused to place Kentucky in his top spot for the past month, and now we know who he is.
As you might expect, Big Blue Nation has buzzed with curiosity as to who this mystery coach might be. Now, finally, we have an answer.
“Well, I know one No. 1 vote Duke got, and that was mine,” Wofford coach Mike Young told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “I know Kentucky is such a remarkable team -- so long and so deep. But Duke is just as terrific. I know I’d love to see them play each other in the (NCAA) tournament.”
Wofford, which is off to an 11-4 start and won at N.C. State on Dec. 14, faced Duke inside Cameron Indoor Stadium on New Year’s Eve. The Terriers were defeated by a final score of 84-55.
