Michigan State is still No. 1 in the polls after surviving a scare against Oakland with the start of conference play looming. The Spartans are followed by Kansas, Oklahoma, Maryland and Virginia in the top five of the coaches and AP polls.

There are five undefeated teams left in college basketball, with MSU (No. 1), Oklahoma (No. 3), Xavier (No. 6) and South Carolina (No. 24) each cracking this week’s AP Poll. SMU, who knocked off a quality Colorado team this week, is No. 17 in the AP Poll but unranked in the coaches poll. The Mustangs are banned from the NCAA Tournament this season.

On Tuesday, conference play will begin across the country. The first week of conference play includes several marquee matchups, including a pair of intriguing Big East games in Xavier vs. Villanova and Providence vs. Butler on Thursday. Saturday’s slate is also loaded, with Kansas hosting Baylor, Virginia hosting Notre Dame and Oklahoma hosting Iowa State.
