There was a time not long ago when Jordan Fuchs thought his future was in basketball. As a power forward at Christ the King High School in New York, Fuchs had scholarship offers from Iowa State, Dayton and Rutgers, among others. Eventually, Fuchs decided football was his path, and committed to Indiana as a tight end. Now he’s getting the opportunity to play both sports.
Indiana adds football player Jordan Fuchs to basketball roster
Tom Crean is taking a tight end from the football team to give his team some size inside.

Tom Crean has added Fuchs to the Hoosiers’ basketball roster, and he was in uniform when Indiana lost to Maryland by two on Wednesday. Fuchs didn’t play, but eligible as soon as Crean decides to put him in the game. Fuchs appeared in 12 games for Indiana football last season, finishing with three catches and a touchdown.
The Hoosiers desperately need some size on the inside, and the 6’6, 235-pound Fuchs should help. Indiana is one of the smallest teams in the country even after getting center Hanner Mosquera-Perea back in the lineup this week after he missed seven games due to injury.
Usually this works the other way around, with basketball players like Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey and Antonio Gates turning into All-Pro NFL tight ends. For the record, SB Nation is very much in favor of Kentucky’s football program giving Willie Cauley-Stein a call should the star center do the unthinkable and forgo the NBA again.
