Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesPeople who went to powerhouse sports schools are always shocked when I tell them that student section tickets were free at Northwestern. You just had to go to the games. Well, we’ve been one-upped by the University of Akron Zips:
Starting with Wednesday’s contest vs. Toledo (7 p.m. ET), for every home game that the student attendance reaches 800 or more, UA students at the game will receive $5.00 on their Zip Card for attending that contest. Students attending all three home games will receive an additional $5.00 bonus, regardless how many students attend those games, for a potential total of $20.00.It doesn’t seem like this is a scenario where the Zips are trying to bolster anemic attendance. The team’s last home game had an attendance of over 4,800 in a 5,500-seat arena, and coach Keith Dambrot claimed that over 1,400 students were at the game. Rather, they’re thanking fans for showing up to see the Zips -- currently in second place in the MAC at 8-4. Teams give stuff away all the time, but ... normally it’s stuff, not money.

Roy Williams and Mike Krzyzewski linked arms:
Read Article >Kentucky is already NCAA Champions on Wikipedia

Kentucky advanced to 26-0 tonight with a win over Tennessee, but it shouldn’t even bother playing the rest of the games. Wikipedia already says the Wildcats are NCAA Tournament champions. (H/T to SI’s Alex Hampl)
Here’s that revision history, in case you think we doctored this. Remember, this is the fanbase that sells 40-0 t-shirts. They’re not exactly worried about jinxing things.

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY SportsThe win moves Kentucky to 26-0, with games against Auburn, at Mississippi, vs. No. 18 Arkansas, at Georgia and vs. Florida left on the schedule. It’s gotten to the point that an undefeated regular season almost feels like a given. Calipari knows what really matters starts in about one month.
Credit Tennessee for hanging tough. The Volunteers were only trailing by four points with 10 minutes remaining, but a 10-0 run by Kentucky blew open the game late in the second half.
