Following an eventful Saturday, it’s a quiet Sunday in college hoops. That doesn’t mean it was without an upset as UConn took down No. 21 SMU.

College player jukes mop boy on layup

Northeastern guard Devon Begley faced a formidable opponent in the paint Sunday: a young mop boy. At this point he had a decision to make. He could either just bowl over the small child and look like a monster, or take the high road and juke the kid out of his mopping sneakers.

    Smooth move, kid. Both kids.

    Arizona outlasts Utah

    Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona and Utah entered their Saturday night showdown with the Pac-12 regular season championship hanging in the balance. Only two games remained for each team before the start of the conference tournament, with Arizona holding a one-game lead thanks to a victory over Utah in Tucson last month. On Saturday, Utah had the Wildcats on their own home floor but the result wasn’t any different.

After a frantic final two minutes, Arizona pulled away for a 63-57 victory. The game got tense at the end when Utah’s Brandon Taylor hit a pull-up three-pointer to give the Utes a one-point lead with about 1:55 remaining. On the next possession, Arizona’s Gabe York was fouled. He made the first free throw and missed the second, but rebounded the shot and put it back in to give the Wildcats a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson iced the game with free throws at the end.

Wichita State wins the MVC once again

    Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports

The biggest game on a loaded Saturday schedule across college basketball saw two top-15 teams playing for a conference championship on the last day of the regular season. You might not think No. 10 Northern Iowa and No. 11 Wichita State fit that profile out of the Missouri Valley Conference if you haven’t been paying attention to the first four months of the season, but there’s a reason each of these teams are so high in the polls. Both are that good.

Wichita State had the game at home with revenge on its mind after losing to UNI last month. Both teams came out hot but Wichita State would create separation with a big run at the end of the first half and eventually pull away for a 74-60 win.
