Dan Dakich fights with mayor of Champaign on Twitter

Things got heated.

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Illinois got a technical foul in its win against Michigan State on Saturday when Illini guard Jaylon Tate threw his rear end into MSU free throw shooter Travis Trice.

After the game, ESPN play-by-play announcer Dan Dakich tweeted that it was the correct call.

The mayor of Champaign, Illinois — the home of the Illini — tweeted to tell Dakich that he was wrong.

Dakich isn’t new to off-the-court fights. Most recently, he and Iowa coach Fran McCaffery got into a little spat. As he does, Dakich took a shot at Gerard.

Like McCaffery did, Gerard pointed out that Dakich — who claims to be a coach — is not currently a coach and struggled during his coaching career.

BUT DAKICH COULD COACH TRUST HIM. Also, “skippy.”

Gerard apparently wants Deadspin to know about this argument.

And we’re now to the point in the argument where Dakich brags about his measurables.

BURN!

PROFESSIONALISM BURN!

Show some respect, Dakich.

And mercifully, it was over, thanks to the mute button.

A fight between a mayor and an ESPN announcer. Just another great adventure on Twitter dot com.
