Kentucky outlasts Florida to remain undefeated

The Gators were up to the task early, but they didn’t have enough to pull off the upset.

The Kentucky Wildcats survived a difficult challenge on the road against the Florida Gators to come away with a 68-61 victory. With the win, Kentucky remains perfect on the season, improving to 23-0 and 10-0 in SEC play.

The Gators gave No. 1 Kentucky everything it could handle. Florida got off to a strong start, building an early nine-point lead. Freshman Karl-Anthony Towns played a huge role in leading Kentucky back. He was the best player on the floor for much of the game and finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Aaron Harrison was also huge for the Wildcats and finished with 23 points, including some clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Despite playing much of the game through foul trouble, Florida threatened the upset until the final seconds. Dorian Finney-Smith (16 points) led the way for the Gators, who got off to a hot shooting start before cooling off. The game started to flip in the second half, with Willie Cauley-Stein contributing the most notable play in the comeback.

The Wildcats won’t get much rest, traveling to LSU to take on the Tigers on Tuesday. Kentucky is now eight wins away from an undefeated regular season.
